A new video on: The art of Loving and the «Cube of Love»
The “art of loving” got its name from Chiara in 1997 in Taipei 1 and it is divided into six points that Jesus himself revealed to Chiara in the early days of the Movement, leading her and her first companions to discover a new way of putting the Gospel into practice. It was a school, a “journey” that led them in a vital way to enter into the heart of the Good News. These are points that Chiara mentioned in many talks before and after 1997 and which she shared with a wide variety of audiences. In 1998, Chiara also explained them to children, responding to the difficult question: “Chiara, I want to become like Jesus, how can I do that?” and giving them a special “cube”, created by the intuition of the pedagogist focolarina, Roseli Weber, which shows the six points on its sides. The cube of love, as we know, is a dice that shows on its 6 sides 6 characteristics of evangelical love lived since the beginning of the Movement.
The main focus of the video “The cube of love: a ‘treasure’ to be discovered! Six ‘secrets’ so as to ‘love the person who is living right next to us’” is Chiara’s explanation of the Art of Loving to the Gen 4, illustrated with animations and experiences.
But the video starts with the “indignation” that children from various parts of the world have expressed in response to continually witnessing tragedies either directly or on television. Their cry of “That's enough!” has, as we know, turned into appeals to those who could do something (such as the manifesto written by the Gen 4 in Portugal in 2021, which they took to a very important meeting, the European Union Summit2), into poems (such as the one written a few years ago by a 7-year-old Gen 4 from Uruguay), and into specific actions (as in 2023: “KidsAction4Peace”3). It is a “that's enough” that sets love in motion, a love that has no boundaries, capable of a new way of looking at others, looking at “every brother and sister with love”.
We offer the video in two versions
-A complete video (useful for showing to parents, animators and others)
-The same video divided into three parts, corresponding to the 3 stages. Each part begins with a title and brief summary.
-1) That’s enough! We should do something: introduction to and the first point of the Art of Loving, following Chiara’s words (Love everyone)
-2) Love in a “new” way: second and third points of the Art of Loving (Be the first to love – Love Jesus in the other)
-3) The love which makes us brothers and sisters: fourth – fifth - sixth points of the Art of Loving (Love the others as ourselves – Love one another- Love your enemy) and conclusion.
There is also a suggested a “course” to “learn” the art of loving, with a variety of materials to be used with groups of children, involving parents if desired 4.

1 “… But, as a philosopher once said: “Loving is good. Knowing how to love is everything.” Therefore, they want to learn how to love. Yes, because Christian love is an art - and one needs to know how to live this art of loving. …” (C.Lubich, Day meeting with the ecclesial community of Taipei (Taiwan), 26.01.1997)
